Nothing Day

It started with Sophia.... the naming of it.

It was a Tuesday morning, and sometime before the girls went to school, Sophia asked, "Mama, is today Nothing Day?"
It was such a Sophia kind of thing to say, and I squeezed her and said that yes, today was Nothing Day.:) She yelled "Yay!!"

Nothing Day is No School, No Activities, No Appointments, No Running, no.... anything... Not a thing... Nothing.:)

And we love it!

So ever since, Tuesdays have been known as Nothing Day.
Well, the older girls caught wind of this, and rather sadly enquired why they didn't have a Nothing Day. They forget that they too didn't always go to school everyday, got to play in their pj's sometimes and not have to go anywhere.
No.... They wanted a Nothing Day.

Our week is busy, and so are weekends. Anthony and I work odd hours and between school, work and activities ( they each have one thing), we are out every day of the week after school.

I sometimes feel like we wear our busyness like badges of honour. Sometimes it even sounds to my ears like in true martyr fashion, I complain about the busyness but actually take pride in how busy I am.

So on Thursday morning, Gabriella asked if we had anything to do on Saturday. I said Alexandra possibly had a makeup day for karate because of the snow storm, but maybe not. She asked if we could possibly have a Nothing Day if we had no plans, "because Mummy, wouldn't it be nice to just relax by the fire and knit?"

Indeed.

There's a lot to do. There's always a lot to do. But when your kid asks for 'nothing', how can you possibly say 'no'?:)

Would that we were as / more in tune with when we need a break, hey?

We've had a good day. And no, nothing doesn't mean we didn't do anything.:).

But it felt good. We didn't go anywhere. We were together.

And.... It's possible to knit with someone sitting verrrry close to you... Just hold your elbows against your body.:)

It's worth it.:)

Anthony finished painting the shelves he had made.

Gabriella knitted….

Alexandra had asked if she could make pancakes, and so she did.:)

Sophia got some new play dough from Grammy and had lots of fun! (Play dough never gets old!)

…Tom Chapin is one of their favorite  artists…and so they got up and danced every now and again!:)

We knitted.:)

We asked Siri what she looked like, and she replied "In the Cloud, no-one cares what you look like."  So the girls just decided to draw what they thought she looked like.:)

I had sopped at Target on the way home from work, and got some mini greenhouses, so we started some seeds. (basil, cilantro, avocados, butternut)

And measured….stuff.:)
